A New Age Arranged Love! Traditional Wedding Story Of Sowmya & Mothi
Wedding is one common ground that blends traditions, trends and in-betweens, wraps it all up in sweet smiles and happy vibes. We are proud to introduce the Trend-Inspired yet Traditionally Grounded couple Sowmya and Mothi. Beautiful stories, thats what love is built on.
Hello Everyone, This is Sowmya Mothi a Coimbatore born and raised Tamil girl whose biggest wish of life is to have a ritually rich, populous big, fat, typical Tamil wedding. I was blessed to have my wish come true.
Yes, I had a BIG wedding which started with a happy Sangeet followed by Reception and Muhurtham in Coimbatore and finished with another reception in Trichy. I always have been an ardent follower of Shopzters and it inspired my wedding in so many ways. I am delighted to share my wedding story here with my fellow Shopzters.
Like most couple, ours was an arranged marriage too. Mothi and I met through the new age wedding site Tamil Matrimony. Both the families spoke and liked and got along well. Mothi was in Middle East during that time, so we first saw face to face on Skype. Next step he suggested that he comes down to India to meet me and family before the engagement and he came with his family to sweep me off my feet on January 18th.
The same day we decided we liked each other and the engagement date was decided right then. Engagement was on the 10th of April at Hotel Grand Regen, Coimbatore. The very next day after engagement we both got a permanent tattoo and the story just got interesting!
My wedding date was decided to be on the 9th of September so we had an ample 5 months, time in between the engagement and the wedding day to do planning and wedding shopping. The first thing to book was the wedding hall, we managed to book Smt. Padmavathi Ammal Cultural Centre, Coimbatore.
Next was sarees and dresses shopping, I always visualised how I should look on my big day and everything was finalised the way I wished it to be.
For reception I decided to wear a Lehenga. I got it from Kay the fashion bay at Chennai, they have such stunning Lehenga collections, if anyone has Lehenga on mind for their wedding. Saree, I got from @a-s-babu-sah# - Kanchipuram, needs no explanations. I guess their name speaks for themselves.
I always wanted to wear a Red Saree for my muhurtham and found one matching my taste very easily. For reception at Trichy I chose a green saree with pink border.
Mothi got his suits made from Massimo Dutti and Zara Singapore.
Next came in jewellery hunt. I bought all my gold jewellery from ,Jos Alukkas, Coimbatore. For wedding I decided to go with temple Jewellery. Jos Alukkas customized few jewels for me especially the long Nagas chain and short mala. It was really not easy to find the accessories, I managed to get these from Chennai and few from Priyas @ Crosscut, Coimbatore.
All my wedding and reception blouses were designed and made by @mantra-the-design-studioclothing#, Coimbatore. They did a nice job and the best part is, they delivered on time, as promised.
Makeup and Hair-do, for Trichy reception, it was a studio called Reshmi Parlour. My God!! I didn't expect it to be so good. She did an amazingly good job and I got some best compliments on the make-up.
For Coimbatore, Marias, Lakshmi Complex, Coimbatore. She did a nice job. She is someone you can trust, for on your big days.
Wedding Decors were by @mark1-events-and-decorsevent-planning# for Coimbatore functions and Avsam wedding planners for Trichy. A fantastic job was done by both of them. In Coimbatore, the Muhurtham stage decorations were really impressive and many guests complimented it. We wanted a temple like theme and Mark 1 brought it out perfectly.
Apart from that, we arranged for a Pallaku to carry me and Chanda Melam which was appreciated by many during reception. A special mention to Avsam wedding planners, Trichy, they did exceptionally good job in Trichy. Mothi selected few designs and customized it with more flowers and wanted completely a white based theme. Avsam was completely awesome with their work. They exceeded our expectations.
One of the most complimented part of our wedding was food, it was made by the very renowned Madhambatti Nagarajan. No words to thank him on the taste, especially the types of Dosas he makes and the way they present. It was amazing. For Trichy, the reception was at Hotel Mayas. Mothi is a very close relative of the Hotel Mayas family and hence there was extra care done for the food. Fantastic hall and amazing food!!!
Mehendi was done by Priya Professional Mehendi Artist. She did an impressive work. One point to note about her is her patience and detailing in the art that she does.
We Organised for Sangeet at my home on the day before reception. Few close relatives and friends joined in this function. Thanks to all my friends who made that day memorable. Mothi was a bit shy to dance but he contributed a few easy moves and exceptionally good singing performances.
One Important thing about our wedding was, we insisted that we wanted a Tamil wedding with all Vedas recited in Tamil. So we requested the presence of Sivan Adigalars to do that.
Everything falling in place perfectly, our whole wedding functions from engagement till reception was framed in pictures by @priyavision#. No Words!!! He did amazingly good work. He is someone who we should specially thank for giving such a beautiful album and we are going to cherish this for our lifetime.
For honeymoon, we decided it to be within India because we will be flying out to settle off in Singapore. So we chose Orange County in Madikeri, Karnataka. This is one of the top ten honeymoon resorts in India. You will feel like a Prince and Princess here with their customer service. It worth every penny you spend. Excellent experience and excellent food!!
