Clouds And Sunshine - Subalaxmi And Nithin’s Destination Wedding
Everything in life is riddled with superstitions and theories made-up by our elders. Especially at weddings, they are super-sensitive to their surroundings. Like if it rains too hard on your wedding, they say, it’s probably because the bride ate a lot of ‘pacha arusi’ raw uncooked rice. The truth is no one can predict or control the climate and sometimes things just happen. And sometimes you make things happen. Here’s a wedding story which has a bit of both.
Subalaxmi met Nithyakanna a.k.a. Nithin at her friend’s place. He was her friend’s cousin. A couple of years later, Nithin proposed to Subalaxmi, and their journey of love began. Like any parents, theirs had a lot of trouble digesting this news, but eventually they gave in. Subalaxmi and Nithin dreamed of a beach or a temple wedding. But their Muhurtham fell on a mid-morning in July which will make any temple or beach too hot to get married. So when the parents joked about Ooty/Kodaikanal destination for a cooler climate at 11ish in the morning, something clicked.
The bride and the groom searched online for resorts near that area, and found a popular destination for weddings. And decided to move their wedding to this resort called McIver in Coonoor. When they visited it, it was just like the pictures they had found online, and were very happy with the choice of venue.
Soon after that, her shopping expedition began. And Subalaxmi bought her wedding sarees at Baramahalakshmi, Mylapore. It’s a popular store in Kancheevaram and they had opened a branch in Chennai. She purchased all her jewellery from Parrys corner.
Many had warned about rains as it was monsoon season in Coonoor, and so the couple obsessively checked the weather reports and had a plan B just in case. It was an outdoor wedding, and they didn’t want the wedding party or the guests to get drenched.
Her make-up was done by Srinivasa Rao. She sat for it around 7 a .m. and in two hours she was ready. It had rained on the previous night and it looked like the sky was going to burst any second. So they were all set for plan B, where they had arranged for hard-roofing to shelter them. But in the last minute the clouds were slowly clearing, and off and on there was sunshine.
The climate was pleasant and perfect. It added to the beauty and romance of their wedding. Their photographers Manoj and Anand (@manoj-sasidharan#) did an excellent job and captured the scenic wedding beautifully. The guests dined at La Belle Vie, a restaurant at Mc Iver. Everything was perfect.
Later, they came back to Chennai. Their reception was held in EM EL EM Kalyana Mandapam. And the food was catered by Ajay from Dilip Caterers.
Subalaxmi had gotten a tailor-made designer dress made by Vandana. And didn’t choose to deck up with much jewellery except a watch she had purchased on the previous night at EA, Chennai.
The whole wedding experience was special and memorable to the bride as she had full freedom to choose and decide on every aspect of it.
Now isn’t that just every modern bride’s dream?
