When opposites attract, there is a perfect balance. Simplicity and complexity need each other to thrive and be complete. This is the case with my husband, Girish and me. I’m Riddhi, a happy independent Facebook employee living in Hyderabad. My parents after meeting with Girish introduced me to him. He was the total opposite of me, a people person and a doctor, who was working from when he was 17. But we decided to give it a chance and met each other. After long chats, stalking on Facebook and a 2 month wooing period we got engaged in July 2018 and our wedding was held in December 2018.
We both wanted an outdoor wedding, and a lot of planning went into it. Our mehendi and cocktail ceremony was held in Blue house, ECR. We wanted to have fun and make unforgettable memories. So we decided to have a water fight before the mehendi. It was so much fun and our friends and family thoroughly enjoyed each moment of it. During the ceremony, my friends did a choreographed dance which surprised me the most. It was a memorable evening with closest people filled with fun, dance, drinking, music and sea breeze.
My reception and wedding happened in Gopinath gardens, ECR. It is a sprawling grounds with lawn and we decorated the entire grounds with a dark coloured theme (purple carnations) for the reception and light coloured theme (pink and peach carnations) for our wedding.
We chose @marriage-colours# decorators among 10 other planners we met and as they were the only ones who could pull off an outdoor wedding
@mystic-studios# covered our photography and videography. We chose them as they are the friendliest group of photographers who could capture moments of a camera-shy couple like us.
Food and catering – We preferred Fromage of Somerset, as the quality of food is good and the variety they offered of modern dishes. Anandha’s was an obvious choice as it is my dad’s restaurant.
Pro makeup, Anna Nagar was the obvious choice for me as they understood that I wanted a simple makeup being a person who hates makeup.
I’m a person who doesn’t indulge in shopping. Being the laziest bride, my mom was my backbone, who pushed me to get all the work done on time. I wore an Indo-western saree gown for my Mehandi function that was designed by my husband at Fatiz, Nungambakkam. My wedding sarees were from @a-s-babu-sah#, Kancheepuram who had endless collections and @kalanikethan#. All my blouses were designed by @studio-149-by-swathi# My reception outfit was from designer Kalighata in Kolkata. All of Girish’s clothes were tailor-made at @gatsby-collection#, Nungambakkam as he was a regular there and Heeba, the lead designer is amazing at what she does.
My jewellery for the wedding was from various places like @vbj#, JCS and Challani.
Like every bride to be, I wanted to look my best. So I started paying more attention to my diet. I increased my protein intake and worked out in the gym at least twice a week. I followed a beauty regime at home by making a face pack using ground almonds and milk.
For our honeymoon, our parents organized a trip for us to Bali. We spent 10 beautiful days travelling around the island. The most unforgettable incident was when Tsunami struck Bali just when we flew into Bali from Kuala Lumpur. Another emotional and funny moment was when Girish’s mom cried during the wedding while my family being the bride’s side was composed and held together. The most romantic gesture during our engaged phase was when Girish decided to surprise me, while I was on a work trip to Japan. These are a few of my favourite memories of my wedding.
