The Romance In Friendship
We found a couple who turned a beautiful friendship into an even better relationship. Not only do they complement each other as best friends, they take it a step forward to become each other’s life partners.Idayavathi and Regil met when they were both students of Graphic Design at Image Institute in Chennai and immediately formed a strong bond. Which later transformed into a relationship that lasted three years, post which they decided to tie the knot. Though the groom’s parents were a bit difficult to convince, the families soon reached a compromise that resulted in their happily-ever-after.
Here is the story in our bride’s own words:My engagement took place on 21st August in a Tamil ceremony at Ramada, Chennai. I wore two saris which I picked up from Moksha, my favourite store. I happened to have a very interesting and sentimental connection to the boutique, this is the same place I got my sari for the 12th Std farewell from, as well as the other important occasions of my life that followed so it only seemed fair that the tradition must continue. The blouse was designed by Rakhi, Chirag’s who did a fabulous job on the green sari giving it a peacock inspired blouse and a white stone work blouse in contrast with the pink sari. The groom’s Nehru Suit was also a catch from Moksha. I wanted my jewellery to be Kerala temple style, I’d had something in mind for a long time before I picked up a complete set which fit my requirement perfectly from Joyalukkas.
The stunning make-up was done by Artistry by Olivia and the hair was by Siddharth. I took a particular liking to the flowers in my hair, the Poolajada which I ordered from Vaagai. The artificial accessories for the hair were picked up from Swarna Prabhu, who are famous for their brilliant and detailed pieces.
Regil, owns his own photography company which shot the entire wedding as well as the other functions. My mehendi was a family affair and the function was held at home. However, my mehendi artists was absolutely brilliant and made some very intricate designs. Mahira who is settled in Dubai goes by the name of Henna Designer Wala on Instagram and Facebook is famous for her great work.My wedding took place on the 21st of January and was held in the traditional Nayar style.
The décor was done by Pandian Decors from MRC in an amazing Kerala style set-up. My sari was from Varmaha Lakshmi, Kanchipuram and I cannot praise the variety they had and the attention they paid to all their customers despite being crowded enough. My husband picked up his traditional outfit from Varmaha Lakshmi as well. My blouse was designed once again by Rakhi, it took two months to finalise but was definitely worth the wait. My make-up artist was chosen through Shopzters, Babu was my first and only choice even if I had to book him six months prior because of his busy schedule. The jewellery was a mix of some gorgeous antique pieces from JCS, followed by three months of searching that lead to a set of customised Jhumki and Neckpiece from VBJ which was adored by all.
The headset and oddiyanam were artificial pieces of silver and gold respectively from Swarnaprabu which earned various approving glances from the guests who believed them to be real.Bangles are my favourite accessories so I picked some beautiful thread bangles from Prince Plaza and a set of gold ones from VBJ. The flowers for my hair were once again from Vaagai, they matched my sari perfectly. My reception décor was once again by Pandian décor, who did a simple yet elegant job at it. The red lehenga I wore was in mirrorwork from ManMandir, they have an awesome collection and I knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity so I wanted the best. As a bride, I think you should start designing your lehenga two months in advance so it is customised to your liking.
My husband’s indo western outfit was from Moksha, even though it didn’t arrive until a day before the wedding, it was a perfect fit.The jewellery I wore for this function has to be my favourite piece, it was a kundan set with pearls from VBJ. My make-up for this function was done by Neelam, who was bit on the pricey side but was worth it, she used three shades of lipsticks to find a colour that would look good on me, overall her look was subtle and yet different. My sister and her husband were a great help throughout the wedding, they took care of everything.
There were some funny moments throughout my wedding that are rather memorable, the fact that my wedding kept getting shifted and delayed made me anxious since I was ready from 7am but had to wait till 10:30 for anything to happen. However, since it was a Nayar wedding the entire built up that lead to a five minute quick ceremony was all worth the wait for the priceless moment when he tied the knot. We also had a wonderful cake from La Chocolate, a bakery that has been with me through various special occasions, but the funny part was that I didn’t even get to see my cake. The function was so crowded that we didn’t cut the cake nor taste it, my wedding cake remains a mystery to me.
